The Venetian

"All-suite rooms, a world-class casino, and a convention center so big it has its own zip code. The gondolas are a gimmick. The Palazzo next door is the better pick in 2026 — but the Venetian is still excellent."

The Rundown

The Venetian opened in 1999 on the site of the legendary Sands Hotel — the Rat Pack's home base — and immediately set a new standard for room quality on the Strip. Every room is a suite, starting at 650 square feet. That is not marketing language. The standard room at the Venetian is larger than most hotels' junior suites. The casino is 120,000 square feet of serious gambling. The Grand Canal Shoppes has the gondola rides that everyone photographs and almost no one takes twice.

The Venetian and its sister property, the Palazzo (connected via an indoor walkway), together form one of the largest resort complexes in the world. The dining collection — Thomas Keller's Bouchon, Buddy V's, TAO — is strong. The poker room is one of the best in Vegas. The convention center is massive, which means the property can feel like a business hotel during major convention weeks.

The Venetian is the correct answer for guests who prioritize room quality above all else. The suites are genuinely exceptional. The casino is serious. The location is strong. The Walk Score is middling — the property is large and the parking situation is complex.

Tower Talk Intel

WinThe Best Standard Room on the Strip

Every room at the Venetian is a suite starting at 650 square feet. The sunken living room, separate bedroom area, and large bathroom make this the best standard room value on the Strip. If room quality is your priority, the Venetian is the answer.

The TeaThe Sands Was Here First

The Venetian sits on the site of the Sands Hotel, the Rat Pack's home base. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. performed at the Copa Room. The Sands was imploded in 1996. There is a small historical marker near the entrance. Worth knowing if you care about Vegas history.

Heads UpConvention Weeks Are Brutal

The Venetian's convention center hosts CES, MAGIC, and dozens of other major conventions. During convention weeks, the property is overwhelmed with business travelers, room rates spike, and the casino floor is packed with people who would rather be at the airport. Check the convention calendar before booking.

Pro TipThe Poker Room Is One of the Best in Vegas

The Venetian poker room is large, well-run, and has a better mix of skill levels than Bellagio or Aria. Regular tournaments, good staff, and a comfortable environment. If you play poker, this is your room.

Wins & Watch-Outs

Wins

  • Every room is a suite — best standard room quality on the Strip
  • Excellent poker room
  • Strong dining collection
  • Lower resort fee than comparable properties
  • Indoor connection to Palazzo

Watch-Outs

  • Convention weeks make the property feel like an airport
  • The Walk Score is middling — the property is large
  • No direct monorail access
  • Pool is average compared to competitors
  • The gondola rides are a tourist trap

Room Reality

Every room is a suite. The standard Venetian Suite starts at 650 square feet with a sunken living room, separate bedroom area, and large bathroom with soaking tub and separate shower. The 2023 renovation updated finishes significantly. These are genuinely among the best standard rooms on the Strip. The views from upper floors are excellent. Noise is generally well-controlled.

3.5Overall

The Grand Canal Shoppes provide a long air-conditioned corridor connecting to the Palazzo tower. The pool deck is shaded better than most, but it's not a destination pool — it's a functional one.

History

The Sands Hotel and Casino opened on December 15, 1952, and became the spiritual home of the Rat Pack — Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop. The Copa Room hosted legendary performances. The Sands closed in 1996 and was imploded in November 1996. Sheldon Adelson's Las Vegas Sands Corporation built The Venetian on the site, opening in May 1999. The Palazzo opened in 2007 as an expansion. Las Vegas Sands sold the properties in 2021 to Apollo Global Management and VICI Properties for $6.25 billion.

Who Stays Here

The Venetian attracts a mix of business travelers (the convention center is enormous), serious gamblers (the poker room and high-limit areas are excellent), and couples who want the best room on the Strip without paying Four Seasons prices. The vibe is more upscale business hotel than party resort. You will see more suits and fewer bachelorette sashes here than at Cosmo or Palazzo.

The Verdict

The Venetian is the correct answer for guests who prioritize room quality above everything else. The suites are genuinely exceptional — the best standard room on the Strip. The casino is serious, the poker room is excellent, and the dining is strong. The trade-offs are a middling Walk Score, convention crowds, and a pool that does not match the room quality. If you want the best sleep of your Vegas trip, book the Venetian.
