The Rundown

Luxor opened in October 1993 as a 30-story black glass pyramid — the most distinctive exterior on the Strip. The inclinators (elevators that travel at a 39-degree angle along the inside of the pyramid walls) are a novelty that guests either love or find disorienting. The Sky Beam from the apex of the pyramid is visible from space.

Here is the honest assessment: Luxor is not a great resort by current Strip standards. The rooms in the pyramid are oddly shaped (the walls angle inward), the rooms in the tower additions are standard but dated, and the casino is aging. But the price is right — Luxor has some of the lowest room rates on the south Strip — and the free tram connects you to Mandalay Bay's exceptional pool complex.

Luxor is a budget play with a distinctive exterior. Manage your expectations on room quality and you will have a fine stay.

Tower Talk Intel

WinFree Tram to Mandalay Beach

The free tram connects Luxor to Mandalay Bay, which means you have access to the best pool in Vegas (Mandalay Beach) for the price of a Luxor room. This is a significant value advantage.

Heads UpPyramid Rooms Are Oddly Shaped

The pyramid rooms have angled walls that make the rooms smaller toward the top. The inclinators (angled elevators) are a novelty that wears off. Request a tower room if room size and standard elevator access matter to you.

Room Reality

The pyramid rooms are oddly shaped — the walls angle inward as you go higher, which means the rooms get smaller toward the top. The tower rooms are standard hotel rooms but dated. The inclinators are a novelty that wears off quickly. Request a tower room if room size matters to you.

Summer Score

How this resort holds up in peak Vegas summer (June–September)

3Overall

The indoor tram connecting Luxor to Mandalay Bay and Excalibur is a summer lifesaver. The pool is functional but not a destination. The pyramid's atrium is air-conditioned and actually pleasant to walk through in summer.
